The enlarged, second edition of Tredgold’s classic works on steam engines with numerous engraved plates and woodcuts. ##### ##### Vol. 1 [Locomotive] . Consisting of ten papers: pp: 72, 2, 12, 40, 28, 68, 14, 8, 16, 4; with 41 plates and 55 wood engravings, most of the plates being foldout. ##### Vol. II. Part I. MARINE ENGINES AND NAVIGATION: Text in nine sections: pp. 340, 42, 52, 20. ##### Volume II Part 2: PLATES.: 93 plates, the majority of which are fold-outs, consisting of 85 engravings and 51 wood-cuts. ##### The three uniform volumes were presented to JOHN BRANDT JR., Master Machinist, Susquehanna Shop [New York and Erie Railrway] by the “Engineers Mechanics & Fireman” association, March 1952. Brandt later became Superintendent of the Chicago & Great Eastern Railway. ##### CONDITION: Good. Moderate wear to covers, front hinge of vol 1 cracked, otherwise a clean tight copy. Moderate foxing to front and end matter, only occasional light foxing through the majority of the text. Vol 2: front cover partially cracked, t.e.g. Light foxing to front matter. The plates are mostly clean and bright, with occasional light foxing to margins. One foldout plate missing rightmost third. About a third of the plates appear to have some smoke damage and wear or chipping to the fore-edges, occasionally extending into the margins but not the images.
