William Mason (d.1797) spent several years on this new version translated into English couplets. Includes a Preface and a verse Epistle to Sir Joshua Reynolds by William Mason; a Life of Du Fresnoy; and, Du Fresnoy's original Latin poem with a parallel translation into English by Mason, together with 56 pages of Notes on the poem by Reynolds and an appendix with du Fresnoy’s comments on painters past and a chronological list of painters to the beginning of the present century by Thomas Gray ##### Condition: Interior Good+; a clean, tight copy with only occasional light foxing. 3” closed tear to errata page, tape repaired, ½” closed tear at top of title page; half-title page trimmed to 80% and tipped in on a new blank page.
