As a young man, he traveled to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he joined an elder brother who was running a trading post. Afterward, he became a western and mountain scout, venturing to the California Gold Rush in 1849. This book records Duval's reminiscences of the Gila Trail journey from Texas to the Mother Lode Mines. Kurutz: The California Gold Rush, No 212. A new copy, but with some toning, light creases, and edge-nicks to the jacket; light creasing to the prospectus.
