University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 1958-1961. 1st editions, 4to, blue wrappers. were conducted Excavation and research of the Mayan ruins at Tikal were conducted under the auspices of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the government of Guatemala from 1956 through 1969. These are the reports of the first years of excavation and fieldwork. Numerous illustrations and plates throughout. In three volumes: Vol I is Numbers 1-4, 1958; 150 pp; Very Good -- a clean, tight copy with sun fading to edges of covers; Volume 2 is Numbers 5-10, 1961,, 225 pp; a good copy; interior is clean and tight; covers faded at edges, chipped at spine ends. Volume 3 is Number 11, 1961, consisting of a 26-page monograph and 10 large folded maps. The maps and monograph are fine, virtually pristine. The blue portfolio covers are faded with substantial edgewear. Facsimile reprints [1986] are widely available, but first printings are scarce, especially with all the maps in Number 11 in this condition.
