Basis for the 1943 Bette Davis movie film co-starring Claude Rains and Paul Henreid. CONDITION: Good; covers clean and bright, lightly bumped at corners. Tape residue on front and rear endpapers where the dustjacket was taped some time in the past; tape remnants still on the jacket flaps. Front hinge week at front flyleaf but still intact. Text block is clean and reasonably tight. Ink stamps for the “story department” of H.N.Swanson, Inc., one of Hollywood’s leading literary agents; these are on FFEP, half-title, all three exterior edges, and periodically inside. Swanson represented F. Scott Fitzgerald, James M. Cain, Raymond Chandler, Elmore Leonard, Cornell Woolrich and many other Hollywood writers and screenwriters. Dust jacket is in fair condition; not price-clipped but with moderate wear, rubbing and chipping on all edges with several closed tears and tape repairs.
