A distinction must be made between the advocacy of the overthrow of our constitutional form of government on the one hand and instruction concerning communism on the other. …. J. Edgar Hoover once gave me the distinction of calling me ‘the most dependable anti-Communist on the West Coast.’ …I am taking every opportunity to appoint to the bench judges who share our concern and will take a firm stand. ….
