8vo, batiked-paper boards with 1/4 vellum-spine. Printed by the Pelican Press and limited to 250 copies. English translation of seventeen verses by Goethe, Schiller, Moerike, Uhland, Hebbel, Theodor Storm, Keller, Guenther, Gleim, Boie, Hofmannsthal, Liliencron and Buerger. The Pelican Press was founded in 1916 by Sir Francis Meynell, with the active involvement of Stanley Morison - a British typographer, designer and historian of printing. He was one of the most influential type-designers of the 20th century, having designed the Times New Roman typeface (1931) and several historical revivals for the Monotype Corporation. A couple of stray pencil marks on FFEP otherwise absolutely pristine -- as if it came off the press today. In very good glassine d/w with several small tears and creases and original cardboard box that is split at all 4 hinges.
