Store Policies

Pretty simple.  If you order something through this website, you must pay for it at the time of the order.

Libraries can be invoiced. Just email or fax your order to us. Obviously, everything is subject to prior sale, but it's not like we deal in things that move quickly.

Dealers: You know how the game works...send us an inquiry or give us a call.

Shipping Charges

Our shipping charges are based upon an average weight of 2lbs [1kg] per book. That average handles it fairly well for most domestic orders. If a book is unusually heavy, and for international orders exceeding 1kg, we may ask for a shipping surcharge.

Sales Tax / VAT

We add sales tax if required by your state.

Value Added Tax: At the time of this posting, books were exempt from VAT in the UK and Ireland. Elsewhere, there may be a surcharge of from 5%-25%. We are still trying to sort out VAT regulations and are not currently registered for EU Vat. Depending on the country to be shipped we will either process your order with a VAT surcharge, or cancel your order and redirect you to an alternate source.

California Dealers: Just pay the tax at the time of order and drop us a line.  We'll refund the tax once we receive your resale number if not already on file.

Payment Methods Accepted

We do most of our business via PayPal. We will be adding credit card capability soon but if you need to use a card right now, give us a call or send an email. Under appropriate circumstances, we will also arrange to meet on a street corner for a discrete exchange of cash.

Fine-Very Good-Etc.

We are conservative graders.

If we say FINE you can assume it is truly in fine condition.  If there are minor defects, they will be noted. [For modern items [post 1972], we might use the words NEW or PRISTINE.]

VERY GOOD means the book has some light surface or shelf-wear, possibly some light age-toning, a bumped or rubbed corner or two; maybe a prior owner's inscription -- but no significant defects.

GOOD is a euphemism for "we wish we had a better copy too." But, still in collectible condition; significant defects are noted. If we don't say the dust jacket is price-clipped, it isn't.  We will tell you if a prior owner felt compelled to scribble his or her name in there somewhere.  We are fussy and generally don't deail in items that aren't in good condition or better.  There are exceptions for scarce items that are difficult to find in good or better condition, or require a second mortgage if you do find them in better condition.

FAIR usually means heavy wear to covers but with the text block good or better.  Any problems with the text block will be noted

POOR means both the covers and text block are damaged.  For both Fair and Poor, we describe the most significant defects.

Refunds

Go ahead; ruin our celebration just as we were popping the cork for a good week!

Satisfaction is guaranteed.  Items may be returned for any reason within 14 days after receipt.  We aren't ogres; returns after that period are Ok too if your delay is reasonable. Please email us beforehand so we will know it is on its way. And please, send back the same copy we shipped to you. (You'd be surprised...)

Our Warranty: Signed Books and Autographs

Unless otherwise noted all autographs, signatures, and inscriptions are guaranteed to be authentic and in the author’s or artist’s own hand.  If we are unable to authenticate an item with certainty, we note this clearly in the description and either price the item as if it were unsigned or price it with a disclaimer at a substantial discount.  If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us.
