Author Name    [Periodical] Wolfgang Paalen, editor

Title   [A Review of Art and Literature] Number 6, April-May 1942

Publisher   Mexico 1942

Seller ID   k170715a

64 pp., DYN (derived from the Greek word κατὰ τὸ δυνατόν, that which is possible) was an art magazine founded by the Austrian-Mexican surrealist Wolfgang Paalen, published in Mexico City, and distributed in New York City, Paris, and London between 1942 and 1944. Only six issues were produced. Condition is poor: Interior is good with some toning but with no tears or markings. Covers soiled and chipped, with front cover detached. First several pages partially detached. Articles by Paalen, Robert Motherwell, Migeul Govarrubias, Anais Nin and others. Illustrations by Brqaque, Calder, Coarrubias, Picasso, Motherwell, Pollock, and others. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles. This volume was a well-used reference copy in the gallery’s reference library, hence the rough condition. Until its recent closure, the Stendahl Gallery was one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. Upon closing the gallery, the family donated a significant collection of photographs and documentation to the Getty Research Institute.
