Quantity: 1 available
One of 600 unnumbered copies. Illustrated with 23 full-page plates, 8 in color, and 47 b/w illustrations in the text. Includes two original etchings the Child with the Dog and the Olympia. This is the first catalog raisonné of the works of Manet. Bound in grey cloth with the original paper front cover preserved. The text block is good; somewhat shaken but generally clean without tears. This was used as a gallery reference copy and there are some light penciled notations in the catalog at the rear of the volume. The plates are all fine, although one of the two original etchings is detached [The Child with the Dog.] with several small tears, nicks, and browning at edges not effecting the image. Still very good margins. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles. This volume was a well-used reference copy in the gallery’s reference library, hence the rough condition. Until its recent closure, the Stendahl Gallery was one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. Upon closing the gallery, the family donated a significant collection of photographs and documentation to the Getty Research Institute.
