2 Stevenson, Robert Louis2 Vintage Photographs of RLS in Hawaii, c. 1890
1890. Two vintage photographs of Robert Louis Stevenson in the Islands, circa 1890. 1) 8"x10" matte-finish toned silver print of RLS and Kalakaua, King of Hawaii. No photographer listed, but likely taken by Joe Strong. This photograph, a copy of which is in the Stevenson Museum in Edinburgh, is reproduced on the pages of illustrations following p. 214 of J.C. Furnas' "Voyage to Windward... 2) Glossy finish silver print (beginning to fade a bit at the edges ) of "Luau at Manuia - the beach residence of Mrs. Poor in honor of Robert L. Stevenson. Left to right are Lloyd Osborne (sic), Stevenson, Liliokalani, Link Kalakaua, Mother Stevenson, Mrs. Strong, and James Robertson. This information from a typed note that, alas, has been misplaced. Uns9igned but probably also taken by Joe Strong. Shows the group inside a house seated on the floor with the banquet foods in the center and a British flag on the wall. Two marvelous, and scarce, images..
