'Pablo Picasso - L’Ouvre par Christian Zervos,' First editions of Vols 1-5 & 7-9., Zervos, Christian (ed._
12 Zervos, Christian (ed._'Pablo Picasso - L’Ouvre par Christian Zervos,' First editions of Vols 1-5 & 7-9.
Paris: Cahiers d'art, 1932-1955. Zervos, Christian. 'Pablo Picasso - L’Ouvre par Christian Zervos,' First editions of Vols 1-5 & 7-9. 4to, softcover in original printed jackets. 'Pablo Picasso par Christian Zervos,' known by many simply as ‘the Zervos,’ was prepared by Cahiers d’art founder Christian Zervos in direct collaboration with Picasso. The first volume was published in 1932 and another 32 volumes followed over the next four decades. It remains the most trusted reference to the works of Picasso and the complete set of 33 volumes was recently republished by Cahiers d’Art for a price per set of $25,000. For sale here are first editions of eight of the first nine volumes -- we are lacking volume 6. Volumes 1 and 2 are limited editions (537 & 700). The others have no stated limitation, but press runs were not large. Condition ranges from poor to good, with most volumes shaken and with varying degrees of damage to the spine. Despite damage to the covers and bindings, the plates themselves are fine overall with no tears or markings. These volumes are ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles, where they were well-used working copies in the gallery’s reference library, hence the rough condition of the covers. Until its recent closure, the Stendahl Gallery was one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. Upon closing the gallery, the family donated a significant collection of photographs and documentation to the Getty Research Institute. Contact us for a detailed description of all eight volumes and additional photographs. Price for all 8 volumes: $1750.
