Covers heavily rubbed and chipped at corners and edges; spine faded; hinges cracked and partially separated; no jacket. Prior owner’s inked inscription on fep. The plates are all intact and pristine. This copy formerly the property of Hollywood producer/director Vincent Minnelli with him name blind-stamped at the bottom of the title page..

In an edition of 500 numbered copies this is number 209, specially inscribed by Armitage to Enid and Earl Stendahl, owners of the Stendahl Galleries in Los Angeles. In very good -near fine condition with some sunning to top and bottom edges and spine. Interior is pristine. In plain mylar cover which appears trimmed, but our understanding is that this is normal and it was not intended to fully cover the book vertically. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles, one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. Upon closing the gallery, the family donated a significant collection of photographs and documentation to the Getty Research Institute.

This special edition rarely comes on the market..

Volume 3 is good-. Moderate wear and toning to paper covers, spine darkened, and lightly cracked/rubbed. The text block is clean and tight. Volume 4 containing the accompanying paintings is incomplete, with only the first 76 of 212 b/w plates and the back cover. Priced essentially for Vol 3 only; you get Vol. 4 thrown in..

Paris / NY: Quatre Chemins-Editart/Shoman Art Company, 1948. No. 55 of 500 copies issued by Shoman, of a total edition of 1000 numbered copies. Tan paper wrappers with glassine dust jacket, 11 text pages, followed by 10 color plates and 30 duotone plates; in tan cardboard slipcase. Text is in French. The color plates are protected with tissue guards and are fine overall; however, the two plates used as frontispiece are detached and trimmed approx. ½” at bottom -- but still with very healthy margins. The duotone plates are fine, but they were not tissue-guarded and several have toning or browning to the margins. The front and back covers are good, still in their original glassine dustjacket -- however there is a 1” closed tear at mid-spine. The glassine jacket is browned with several tears on spine. The slipcase is toned on spine and edges with some light soiling, , 3” split at top rear..

Paris: H. Floury, 1902. One of 600 unnumbered copies. Illustrated with 23 full-page plates, 8 in color, and 47 b/w illustrations in the text. Includes two original etchings the Child with the Dog and the Olympia. This is the first catalog raisonné of the works of Manet. Bound in grey cloth with the original paper front cover preserved. The text block is good; somewhat shaken but generally clean without tears. This was used as a gallery reference copy and there are some light penciled notations in the catalog at the rear of the volume. The plates are all fine, although one of the two original etchings is detached [The Child with the Dog.] with several small tears, nicks, and browning at edges not effecting the image. Still very good margins. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles. This volume was a well-used reference copy in the gallery’s reference library, hence the rough condition. Until its recent closure, the Stendahl Gallery was one of America's oldest continuously operating private art galleries. Art from the Stendahl collections found a home in The Louvre and many other major institutions throughout the world. French painter Jean Crotti (1878-1958) was initially influenced by Impressionism, then by Fauvism and Art Nouveau. Around 1910 he began to experiment with Orphism, an offshoot of Cubism, and a style that would be enhanced by his association in New York City with Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia. He was part of the 1925 Exposition International in Paris and the International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Brooklyn Museum in 1926 - 1927. Condition: Poor; covers toned, lightly soiled, and mostly detached. The text block signatures are mostly detached from one another, but clean and complete with only very light toning at edges not affecting images or margins. A good candidate for repair or rebinding. Ex-libris the Stendahl Art Gallery, Los Angeles. This volume was a well-used reference copy in the gallery’s reference library, hence the rough condition.
