Includes a short but enthusiastic printed letter from Kipling to Bullen that was then used as an advertisement for the book. "It is immense--there is no other word. I've never read anything that equals it in its deep sea wonder and mystery." Bullen's account is recognized as a classic sea tale, and viewed by some on a par with Melville. Good+ -- Very good appearance overall, but with cracking at front hinge and center, several dark stains on front cover; frontis illustration partially detached..

Walk wrote and produced several classic films, including the musical Stars Over Broadway and the Bogart classics Dark Passage and Key Largo. The inscription is on the front free endpaper and is dated 1942. The book itself is in fine condition except for some yellowing on the front and rear-paste-downs where the dust wrapper flaps rested against the book. The dust jacket is present but is yellowed at the back and has about a dozen chips and tears along the edges..

[Published earlier that year in an exceedingly rare 4to format] This definitive collection of Franklin essays, many printed here for the first time, is the only edition of Franklin's political and philosophical writings printed during his lifetime. The collection was edited by his friend Benjamin Vaughan with Franklin's knowledge and consent, and contains an 'errata' [Addenda & Corrigenda] made by him for it. Published in London while Franklin was serving as America's ambassador, the work includes many of his writings on the colonial rebellion and British measures leading up to it. Lacking the portrait frontispiece portrait prepared for the 4to edition and found in some copies of the 8vo but with the three scientific plates (one folding), and folding table. Good+:Front hinge lightly cracked, end papers soiled; 19th century bookseller seal [T. Connlly - Dublin] on front pastedown. Light-moderate wear overall with rubbing to spine and extremities. Text block and plates clean and tight with light scattered foxing, An extremely good copy overall. [Ford 342. Howes F330. Sabin 25565.].
